HEIDI Raw Lambswool

$12.00

Icelandic LAMBSWOOL freshly shorn

Heidi is a sweet ewe lamb born in April and growing the most soft and luxurious wool. Icelandic wool is double wool, with a soft under layer called thel and a long wavy over layer called a tog. Hand spinners may separate the two fibers for different textured yarns, but I prefer to spin them together for more of a mohair effect.

This is unwashed raw wool. I prefer to spin my wool in the raw with the lanolin still on it, but some spinners prefer to wash it first.

I have skirted the fleece and picked through to remove most of the vegetable matter (VM), but Heidi is quite a dirt-girl, so I would still consider this fleece medium VM. Please don't be surprised that raw wool is quite dirty! You will need to comb it or card it to remove more VM. This wool will be quite white when clean. Heidi has one giant black spot on her back. It is a gorgeous inky matte black color.

This spins up beautifully on a drop spindle or a spinning wheel.

Icelandic wool also felts VERY EASILY so it's ideal for needle felting and other wool felting crafts.

If you have never used Icelandic wool before, please consider a sample pack to try it out. There are different textures and colors, even on the same sheep!
